Yesterday the Office of National Statistics published the most recent figures on marriages in England and Wales for 2013. It showed a decline for the first time since 2009. In 2013 there was a 8.6% drop from 2012 with 240854 taking place. Elizabeth McLaren (an ONS statistician) suggested the decline could be linked to superstitious couples wanting to avoid the number 13 - fingers crossed that's not right.
The number of people getting married in England and Wales fell in 2013 for the first time since 2009, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
