An investigation has been launched following allegations that motorists' details are being passed onto "Claims Management Companies" (CMCs)  from garages undertaking repairs to cars involved in accidents.  There is a misconception that cold calls  are being made by Personal Injury solicitors  but they are banned from making such calls or text messages by their regulatory body the Solicitors Regulation Authority and it is unregulated CMCs that are responsible for cold calling.

This issue has been highlighted in the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) campaign "Can the Spam" which is appealing to the public to report any such nuisance calls to them (see www.apil.org.uk/canthespam) which they say exploit vulnerable people and generates the false perception that obtaining Personal Injury compensation is easy.
